MISSION: Save Kerr County Cats and Dogs from euthanasia

HOW: Focus on providing support to Kerr County Animal Services, Kerr County’s only open intake taxpayer funded animal control facility.

KPA / KCAS assistance includes offering volunteer support including rescue and transport, animal socialization, networking lost and found pets, providing healthcare items and supplementing adoption fees.

KPA also oversees a 400 plus animal advocacy group. Identify needs of pet owners and provide rescources and education in the community to keep pets in their homes and out of shelters.

    – WHERE CAN I ADOPT A PET:

    There are also a variety of breed rescues that offer adoptions. Conduct an internet search for the breed you are interested in.

    – I FOUND A WOUNDED DEER / WILDLIFE, WHO DO I CALL?
    Freeman Fritts Animal Shelter or Kendalia Wildlife Rescue
    For severly injured deer, call Kerrville Police Department in city and Kerr County Sheriff if in County

    – I FOUND A STRAY ANIMAL, WHAT DO I DO?
    Stay safe, if the animal is easily approachable and has tags, check for contact information or have scanned for a microchip at any shelter or vet. Post a photo of the animal and where found on social media pages. If animal seems aggressive or in harm’s way, call Kerr County Animal Services during the week between 9am and 5pm. After hours call Kerrville Police if animal is found in the city and Kerr County Sheriff if animal is found in the county.

    – I FOUND A LITTER OF KITTENS, WHAT DO I DO?
    Call Kerr County Animal Services if between 9am and 5pm weekly. After hours call Kerrville Police if found in city and Kerr County Sheriff if found in county. Take photos and also post on social media pages and reach out to Kerrville Pets Alive on Facebook or via email.

    – I NEED HELP RE HOMING A PET, WHAT DO I DO?
    First of all, take a breath. Reach out to friends and family and post for help on social media. Contact breed rescues on social media and area no kill shelters, post flyers at your veterinarians office and at local businesses. Send photos and information to Kerrville Pets Alive.   • I NEED PET FOOD, WHERE CAN I GET IT?
    Area food banks often have pet food if you apply for assistance. See attached resource list. Reach out out to Kerrville Pets Alive as well.

– I HAVE LOST MY PET, CAN YOU HELP?
Post flyers in your area with photo and contact information, notify your vet, mail carrier, current neighbors
and old neighbors if you made a move. If a cat, put litter and familiar items and food outside your home. Contact Kerr County Animal Services and make an appointment to go in person to look for your pet. If a cat, ask to see all of the cats. Post your pet on all lost and found pet social media pages, put a free add in local newspapers, send photo and info about your lost pet to Kerrville Pets Alive.

– I NEED HELP WITH GETTING MY PET VACCINATED
Contact Freeman Fritts Animal Welfare Society for low cost vaccinations or any other full service vet in the area. There are also some low cost options in San Antonio. They can be found through an internet search.

– DO THEY KILL PETS AT KERR COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES?
KCAS is a public, taxpayer funded facility. When the shelter is full, they must euthanize cats and dogs for space. Highly aggressive cats and dogs are also euthanized along with high risk rabies wildlife carriers are also vaccinated.

– WHERE IS A NO KILL SHELTER IN TOWN?

– THERE IS SOMEONE SELLING PETS IN A PARKING LOT. WHO DO I CALL?
If in the city, call Kerrville Police Department and Kerr County Animal Services as well as the business owner.

– THERE IS A PET IN A HOT CAR, WHO DO I CALL?
If in the city, call the Kerrville Police Department, Kerr County Animal Services as well as the business owner and if in the county, call Kerr County Sheriff and Kerr County Animal Services.

– I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT A PET BEING TREATED IN A CRUEL MANNER. WHO DO I CALL?
If in the city, contact both the Kerrville Police Department and Kerr County Animal Services. If in the county, contact Kerr County Sheriff and Kerr County Animal Services.

– I HAVE BEEN BITTEN BY AN ANIMAL, WHAT DO I DO?
Seek medical care and call Kerr County Animal Services. In some cases, a bite report will be taken and the animal will be held for a specified period to determine if the animal has rabies.

– I NEED TO BOARD MY PET, WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?
Most area veterinarians provide boarding. Please see attached list. Also conduct an internet search.

– I NEED TEMPORARY PET CARE, WHO DO I CALL?

– MY PET NEEDS TO BE GROOMED, ANY IDEAS?
For a list of groomers, contact your veterinarian or conduct an internet search

Ask for assistance from your vet, friends and family, any senior center you are affiliated with and reach out to Kerrville Pets Alive with the pet’s photo and information.
